Set my people free . . .

I've always tried to explain what I believe the Democrats continue to do to enslave a segment of our society and today, lo and behold, I ran across this comment from a black man that sums it up. Wake up and smell the coffee, there was an Emancipation Proclamation, January 1, 1863. Which political party is the slave owner now?

"On something I can write, the democratic party has held my race in slavery for far too long. Promising socialist programs that make generations of blacks think the dem party is for them. Instead of inclusion in American society, the democratic party helps to isolate us by separating those who break from the party speaking of self reliance, actually telling blacks how this country was founded, on responsibility and working. Instead, dems try to give more welfare, more asinine preferences. Your democratic party is the death of blacks, and I am making sure I tell every black American, not African American as none of us are African anymore, the truth..."

Isn't it time to free every American that wants a better life and not cause them to feel that the only way they can succeed is through racial quotas? How proud would you feel if you received a promotion, not because of your expertise, experience or intelligence, but because your skin was a particular color? VN8

Never once in my life or career has affirmative action affected me. I got into the college of my choice, have been hired for almost every job I ever wanted. A black executive even hired me to fill a top management position once in a publicly traded corporation. And, he gave me the job over many many people of color and did so because I was more qualified for the job. So, I've never once been affected by affirmative action and don't personally know of a living soul who has. Have you?

Jim, I'm sure you believe that fire is hot. You might not have ever been burned, but you wouldn't touch fire to find out. I'm sincerely glad that you haven't experienced any adverse affects of affirmative action or quotas. The comment that I posted is from a different perspective, a black perspective.

I certainly have known someone who was a firefighter that lost a promotion he was promised and it was withdrawn after it was promised and given to a black man. My friend had more tenure and was more qualified but that wasn't even considered. The firefighter was told that when another similar position became available he would be given the job. Fortunately for him he was one year away from retirement and he had enough sick time and vacation time accrued that he took exactly one year off from work and the day he returned, he retired. The year was 1995.

To think that because you haven't experienced it and you haven't known anyone that it has affected doesn't make since. It happens every day.

I work four days a month in a government office and I hear about it four days a month. Maybe it happens more often in government than private business, but I do believe that affirmative action is very similar to unions.

Unions definitely served their purpose but there are so many laws on the books to protect workers they have worn out their welcome and the unions are breaking this country in half.

I thought the gentleman's comment encompassed exactly what I believe is the difference in Republicans and Democrats.

Republicans want people to succeed on their on accord and in my opinion Democrats think people can't do that without their assistance. VN8

Rush Limbaugh often makes this case about the Democrats. Racial and ethnic minorities can benefit the party only if they're disadvantaged which is why the party regards them as victims. And the worst offenders are, of course, Jackson and Sharpton who have made careers of this behavior. But let us not forget Jeremiah Wright and Fr. Pfleger. And ACORN for whom Obama served as a community organizer.
