Paul Harvey Aurandt, known to millions of radio listeners worldwide as Paul Harvey, has died.

He was 90.

The following is Harvey's official biography:

************************
Paul Harvey has said that he was raised in radio newsrooms.

During his time in those newsrooms, he has broadcast the news to millions, built an active professional life and established himself as one of the foremost newsmen in the business.

Born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Mr. Harvey began his radio career in 1933 at KVOO-AM, Tulsa, while he was still in high school.

Later, while attending the University of Tulsa, he continued working at KVOO as an announcer, then as a program director.

After graduation, Mr. Harvey spent three years as a station manager for a local station in Salina, Kansas.

From there, he took a newscasting job at KOMA-AM in Oklahoma City, then moved on to KXOK-AM, St. Louis, where he was director of special events as well as working as a roving reporter.

Mr. Harvey moved to Hawaii in 1940 to cover the U.S. Navy as it began to concentrate its fleet in the Pacific.

He was returning to the United States from that assignment when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor.

Paul Harvey enlisted into the Army Air Corps, where he served until 1944.

After leaving the corps, Mr. Harvey moved to Chicago, where in June 1944, he began broadcasting from the ABC affiliate WENR-AM. He quickly became the most listened-to newscaster in Chicago.

Paul Harvey reached audiences way beyond the Windy City in 1951, when he began his coast-to-coast "News and Comment" on the ABC Radio Networks.

On May 10, 1976, Mr. Harvey began another series of programs on the ABC Radio Networks entitled "The Rest of the Story", which delve into the forgotten or little known facts behind stories of famous people and events.

Today, Paul Harvey "News and Comment" and "The Rest of the Story" can be heard every Monday through Saturday.

Paul Harvey News is the largest one-man network in the world, consisting of over 1,200 radio stations, 400 Armed Forces Network stations that broadcast around the world, and 300 newspapers.

Paul Harvey's reach continues to broaden in the 21st Century, as "News and Comment" is streamed on the world wide web twice a day.

Mr. Harvey is married to the former Lynne Cooper of St. Louis.

They have one son, Paul Jr.

(Paul Harvey's wife passed away last year. What will we do now without knowing the "rest of the story"? Good day, Paul Harvey, you will be missed! VN8)

Where's the pimento cheese?

Well, it's Saturday afternoon and Atlanta is expecting SNOW. Who knows if we will get it, you just never know in this neck of the woods, but I went to the grocery store just like I was suppose to for "bread and milk"! To be completely honest, I didn't get any milk, I'm lactose intolerant, but I did pick up some bread and eggs. I also got some chicken pot pies, some Coca Cola and some celery.

Let me set the stage for you, I'm single and I rarely grocery shop. I mean, I shop for toilet paper, towel paper, garbage bags and laundry detergent and an occasional frozen microwavable dinner but I do not shop often enough to be familiar with the groceries in the store. So today, I'm pushing my buggy through the masses of regular Saturday shoppers and the "SNOW" shoppers and I'm looking and looking and can't locate what I'm looking for. I saw an associate in the refrigerator section that looked to be maybe 17 and asked him, "Where's the pimento cheese?" He asked me, what? Again I asked, "Where's the pimento cheese?" He kept looking at me like I had a third eye in the middle of my forehead. I explained to him that it was a "cheesy sandwich spread". He said, let me get the "cheese guy", maybe he knows where it is. In steps associate number two, the "cheese guy". I asked him, "where's the pimento cheese?" So he pointed me to their Pulix brand and I said, "no, I'm looking for the "Ruth's" brand. Well he showed me where it was and I checked out and drove home.

On the way home, I started thinking I'm going to have to get a little more hip! What do young people eat if they don't eat pimento cheese sandwiches? I've been eating them since I was a kid, always with a little black pepper! I never was the PBJ kind of kid. I liked jelly and I liked peanut butter, but never as a combination! It wasn't just any pimento cheese spread, it was always "Ruth's" or homemade pimento cheese made with Velveeta Cheese, Duke's Mayonnaise, pimentos and a little black pepper!

I suppose we all have those days, you know we've been told it would happen. The day we put our arm through a sleeve and our mother's hand comes out the end of the sleeve. With men, I guess it's when you look in the mirror to shave and you see your father's chin. Today, I had the moment in the grocery when I realized that one day, no one will know what pimento cheese is and they certainly will not know about "Ruth". Makes me wonder if I could freeze a large quantity of it and save it for posterity? The thought of a young child not ever having the experience of a pimento cheese sandwich, some Lay's potato chips and a cold Coca Cola make me want to cry! VN8

OMG, this is awesome!

Eastwood thinks political correctness has made society humourless . . .

Fri, Feb 27 01:15 PM

London, February 27 (ANI): Acting legend Clint Eastwood , 79, apparently believes that political correctness has rendered modern society humourless, for he accuses younger generations of spending too much time trying to avoid being offensive.

The Dirty Harry star insists that he should be able to tell harmless jokes about nationality without fearing that people may brand him "a racist".

"People have lost their sense of humour. In former times we constantly made jokes about different races. You can only tell them today with one hand over your mouth or you will be insulted as a racist," the Daily Express quoted him as saying.

"I find that ridiculous. In those earlier days every friendly clique had a 'Sam the Jew' or 'Jose the Mexican' - but we didn't think anything of it or have a racist thought. It was just normal that we made jokes based on our nationality or ethnicity. That was never a problem. I don't want to be politically correct.

We're all spending too much time and energy trying to be politically correct about everything," he added. (ANI)

(Thank you so much Mr. Eastwood! You are a fresh breath of air in Hollywood, but then again you never have been a part of Hollywood sellouts! God speed in all you do! Oh and PS, "you made my day!" VN8)

Surprising Stock Market Indicator

Pallet/Cardboard Box Indicator

The Pallet/Cardboard Box indicators are straightforward and rather logical. Basically, the higher the demand for corrugated boxes and shipping pallets — necessities when shipping products to customers — the higher the demand for the products being shipped.

Today, virtually everything purchased on a large scale at some point was in a box or shipped on a pallet. Known followers of the cardboard box indicator include Alan Greenspan, who was known to look at cardboard box numbers, among other things, for insight into shifts in the economy.

In today's down economy, numerous businesses in the corrugated box industry are posting losses. Among them was European firm Smurfit Kappa Group PLC, the continent’s largest producer of the cardboard boxes. Smurfit’s revenues fell by $269.9 million in 2008 from 2007, with operating profits falling 50 percent, according to company documents.

It seems the cardboard box indicator can give some pretty reliable insight into the ebbs and flows of the markets. In a similar approach, many look at the transports to prognosticate that increased shipping implies a growing economy.

A Nation of Cowards

Walter E. Williams
Wednesday, February 25, 2009

Attorney General Eric Holder said the United States is "a nation of cowards" when it comes to race relations. In one sense, he is absolutely right. Many whites, from university administrators and professors, schoolteachers to employers and public officials accept behavior from black people that they wouldn't begin to accept from whites. For example, some of the nation's most elite universities, such as Vanderbilt, Stanford University and the University of California, have yielded to black student demands for separate graduation ceremonies and separate "celebratory events." Universities such as Stanford, Cornell, MIT, and Cal Berkeley have, or have had, segregated dorms. If white students demanded whites-only graduation ceremonies or whites-only dorms, administrators would have labeled their demands as intolerable racism. When black students demand the same thing, these administrators cowardly capitulate. Calling these university administrators cowards is the most flattering characterization of their behavior. They might actually be stupid enough to believe nonsense taught by their some of sociology and psychology professors that blacks can't be racists because they don't have power.

Florida is all he cares about!

At 2:35 minutes, RINO Gov. Charlie Crist sized it all up for me. Let me see, you have a lottery in Florida, no state income tax, you've slashed property tax and you want federal tax dollars paid by 49 other states in the Union? Oh, I see, Florida is all you care about? If that's the case, then I think you need to find some Porkulus somewhere else! This appearance in Florida reminded me of Peter kissing Jesus. I believe it seals his fate with the Republican Party, at least I hope it does.

And to you Floridians out there, did he ever get married? I now there was an engagement when he thought he might be picked as a VP candidate, but did he ever tie the knot? Just curious.

Obama and UBS a Bad Mi

It is no secret that UBS is one of the top contributors to the Obama Campaign donating a whopping $505, 017 to his presidential campaign.

How strange that they were allowed to settle a tax evasion case with another big $780 mn buy off to the US , when we have ex- athletes, ex- entertainers, and "every day" not so famous Americans s facing 5 years in jail or more for committing the same crime for far less money, who were not given the chance to settle their debt. They are calling their payment a settlement for the 3,800 times they came to the US to assist the very Americans they are now turning in to the US government for handling offshore accounts.

So, I guess because UBS has more money to offer the IRS, than the sum total of their American clients. So they will make a list and name names to hang them out to dry to save themselves.

They flow of news proves that they are getting off pretty easy. I guess it pays to be one of the top contibutors to a Presidential campaign.

Swiss bank UBS to pay U.S. in tax havens scheme

Jay Weaver and Martha Brannigan

The largest bank in Switzerland admitted Wednesday to defrauding the IRS and agreed to pay the U.S. government $780 million it made by setting up offshore income tax havens for thousands of wealthy Americans — a substantial number in South Florida.
In an unprecedented move, UBS agreed to turn over the names of customers who retained the Swiss bank to assist them in hiding their assets from U.S. tax authorities, according to documents filed in federal court in Fort Lauderdale. It's a highly sensitive issue because of Swiss bank secrecy laws.

In the "deferred prosecution agreement," UBS admitted it broke U.S. tax laws, but it won't have a criminal conviction if the bank meets various conditions of the deal. If it doesn't satisfy those terms, prosecutors will seek to convict the bank.

The agreement signed by UBS breaks down two ways: It requires the bank to pay $380 million of its profits to the government, including $200 million to the Securities and Exchange Commission, for the period 2001-2008. And it requires the bank to pay the government an additional $400 million in taxes, including interest and penalties, that it had failed to withhold on its clients' offshore investments.

The agreement — which reflects an extraordinary battle between two powerful institutions, the Justice Department and the Swiss banking icon — could lead to criminal prosecutions of hundreds of major UBS clients who did not pay their fair share of income taxes in the United States, federal authorities said.

UBS bankers cultivated these customers at venues known for rich and famous patrons, such as Art Basel Miami Beach and the Sony Ericsson tennis tournament in Key Biscayne.

The agreement filed Wednesday, however, does not include a top UBS executive, Raoul Weil, who was indicted separately in November for allegedly conspiring to help wealthy U.S. clients dodge federal income taxes by hiding assets in bogus offshore shell companies and other secret entities. He is a fugitive, believed to be living in Switzerland.

(Hmmm, makes you wonder if any Democrats are going to be on this list. Time will tell. This is an interesting story and I'm not hearing a lot about it in the MSM. Wouldn't it be delicious, simply divine if Senator Daschle was on this list? VN8)

Pulling Rank!

My flight was being served by an obviously gay flight attendant, who
Seemed to put everyone in a good mood as he served us food and drinks.

As the plane prepared to descend, he came swishing down the aisle and told
Us that 'Captain Marvey has asked me to announce that he'll be landing
The big scary plane shortly, so lovely people, if you could just put your trays
Up, that would be super.'

On his trip back up the aisle, he noticed this well-dressed and rather
Arabic looking woman hadn't moved a muscle.

'Perhaps you didn't hear me over those big brute engines but I
Asked you to raise your trazy-poo, so the main man can pitty-pat us on the
Ground.'

She calmly turned her head and said, 'In my country, I am called a
Princess and I take orders from no one.'

To which (I swear) the flight attendant replied, without missing a beat,

'Well, sweet-cheeks, in my country I'm called a Queen, so I
Outrank you. Tray-up, Bitch'

(OMG, I received this in an email and LOL! I'm sure it's been circulating the internet, hope you enjoy! VN8)

The Wisdom of Thomas Jefferson

John Kennedy once said to a assembled group of scholars in the White House, "I think this is the most extraordinary collection of talent, of human knowledge, that has ever been gathered at the White House - with the possible exception of when Thomas Jefferson dined alone."

The quotes below prove his point:

When we get piled upon one another in large cities, as in Europe, we shall become as corrupt as Europe
Thomas Jefferson

The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.
Thomas Jefferson

It is incumbent on every generation to pay its own debts as it goes. A principle which if acted on would save one-half the wars of the world.
Thomas Jefferson

I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.
Thomas Jefferson

My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government.
Thomas Jefferson

No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms.
Thomas Jefferson

The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.
Thomas Jefferson

The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Thomas Jefferson

And here's a Very Interesting Quote:

In light of the present financial crisis, it's interesting to read what Thomas Jefferson said in 1802:

Banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered.

President Obama gets a little stimulation!

(Here's a comment that was posted on YouTube regarding the video and I couldn't sum it up better if I tried! LOL VN8)
He's been on the job for three weeks and already tried to open a window he thought was a door, and now this. At the rate he's going, he should easily outpace all the blunders Bush made in eight years by the end of his first 100 days... and that doesn't even count all the problems with his nominees. Don't worry, I am sure SNL and Jon Stewart are keeping a close count just like they did for Bush.

I'm just saying . . .

I'm confused ...perhaps you have the answer;

How can 2 million people get into Washington, DC in sub zero temps in
1 day, when 200,000 couldn't get out of New Orleans at 85 degrees with four days notice.

(I guess you can accomplish anything if you really want to. VN8)

What's Senator Pelosi smoking?

500 million jobs a month? OK, I checked around on the internet and the total US population is around 302 million, give or take a few octuplets! What is she smoking?

I was so glad to see this video and find out that we are unemployed, we just thought we were working and paying taxes! LOL VN8

Daschle the Tax Evader!

Wow, did you know that you can owe back taxes, be Senate Majority Leader, not pay your taxes, get nominated to Health and Human Services by the "Chosen One", President Barack Obama and catch up your taxes, not pay any penalty and plead ignorance of tax law? Oh and I forgot to mention to those of you in Rio Linda, CA, he's a Democrat! OOOOOOh, well that's the difference, he's untouchable! Now the "Chosen One" is embarrassed? How about outraged? I say put Senator Daschle and Senator "Countrywide" Dodd in the same jail cell together and throw away the key!

And there is more:

Tom Daschle, President Obama's nominee to head the Department of Health and Human Services, reportedly received $220,000 in speaking fees from health care groups with a vested interest in the work he would do once confirmed as health chief.

But it's OK,he's not a working stiff like me, he's been selected by the "Chosen One"!
By the way, does Senator Daschle ever wonder who drives the driver when the driver isn't driving him? I'm just saying! VN8

Bearack Obearama

Animals that were formerly self-sufficient are now showing signs of belonging to the Democratic Party... as they have apparently learned to just sit and wait for the government to step in and provide for their care and sustenance.

This photo is of a Democrat black bear in Montana nicknamed Bearack Obearma.

(Well, well, dependency is coming out of the "wood" works! LOL VN8)
